I almost jumped for joy whenever there was a reveal that would give just that much more of the puzzle, and of course, I was left dying for the next book in the end. I'd truly love to see Muir's wall with the web of information that glues this one together. Once again, from the start, I was whisked away in Nona's story with another compelling mystery to uncover slowly throughout the book. Nona was the character I didn't know I needed in this story. The tomb has been opened and I can’t wait to see the destruction that Alecto wreaks in her book because I just know it’s going to be epic. And I am very happy with all of the bad jokes John made in this book too. Interspersed through Nona’s story was the tale of how John became God and let me tell you, it was nothing like what I had been imagining but fits so well. The end of the book was filled with the usual high stakes dramatics that I so loved in the earlier books and the cliffhanger at the very end was to be expected. A much more sedate pace allowed me to stroll through the streets of the city with Nona and her gang, all while hinting at just who and what Nona was.

Filled with truly delightful characters - looking at you Pyrrah Dve - I couldn’t wait to see how the story of Nona would connect with the previous two books.

While a total departure from the first two books in the series Nona the Ninth holds her own just as well. I lay my beating heart at Tamsyn Muir’s feet.
